Fall Sailing on San Diego Bay
Fall is San Diego Bay's best sailing season — warm water, lower humidity, dependable afternoon wind, and the lightest visitor traffic of the year.
San Diego sails year-round, but locals will tell you the fall months are the best. The marine layer that blankets the bay through May and June is long gone; the afternoon wind is steady, the water is still warm from summer, and the visitor traffic that fills the bay over July and August has eased.
JADA's fall sailing calendar runs heavily for private charters — birthdays, anniversaries, work events, and the start of the holiday party season — and her sunset window shifts earlier as we head into October and November, which makes the sunset cruise itself shorter to plan around but no less beautiful.
October and November are also the months when the gray whales begin their migration south, passing offshore of San Diego on their way to the Baja calving lagoons. We don't book dedicated whale-watching charters this far in the season, but private charters that go out past the kelp beds frequently see them.
Fall private charters start at $400/hour, three-hour minimum. The full charter options page has every available type.
