About JADA
A classic 1938 wooden sailing yacht designed for blue-water ocean racing — and one of the most beautiful vessels still sailing San Diego Bay. JADA is not a replica or a restoration project. She's the real thing.
The Vessel
Designed for the open ocean. Perfect on the bay.
The San Diego sailing yacht JADA was designed for blue-water ocean racing. Built over eighty-five years ago as a solid and fast passage-making vessel, she was engineered for the demands of open ocean competition — not the comfort of a day cruise.
And yet, on San Diego Bay, she is perfectly at home. Her long waterline gives her remarkable stability. Her classic wooden construction — the warm teak decks, the varnished brightwork, the honest craftsmanship of a pre-war shipyard — creates an atmosphere no fiberglass boat can match.
Even today, with the addition of a modern diesel engine, JADA remains an exceptional sea boat. She handles beautifully, sails quietly, and turns every outing into something memorable.
USCG Licensed Captains
Every voyage aboard JADA is captained by a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed professional with decades of experience on San Diego's waters. Our captains are not just sailors — they're locals who know the bay, the weather patterns, the tides, and the stories. Ask them anything.
The Experience
Sailing aboard JADA is not like boarding a motorized tour boat. There's no diesel smell, no engine rumble. When the sails fill, she moves in near silence — the creak of the rigging, the lap of water against the hull, the wind doing all the work. It's the way sailing is supposed to feel.
